Apprenticeships for non-levy payers

Apprenticeship Levy Inspiration

Levy funding is available to all employers with staff based in England – bet you didn’t know that?

95% of your staff training bill - weve got it covered.

Apprenticeship funding is available for smaller employers too.

Employers with a total annual pay bill of less than £3million can use RoATP approved provider to deliver apprenticeship training and just pay just 5% of the cost of their apprenticeship training.

The Government pays the rest.

It’s actually quite an easy process to access the funding, and our team have years of experience working with SMEs to access levy funds. This only relates to employers where their staff are based in England. For advice and guidance on how SMEs, or employers of any size, can access apprenticeship funding in the devolved regions, contact us and speak with one of our funding specialists

Not only can SMEs access funds directly through the Government, when levy payers have unspent levy funds in their digital account, they can transfer up to 25% of their levy funds to other employers, including SMEs to use for apprenticeship training.

If you are a non-levy payer, but have connections or work in partnership with a levy payer, the levy payer may be willing to help you. It’s worth remembering is employers have 24 months to use the funds in their digital account once they enter their apprenticeship service account, after this point, their funds will expire.

Spending the funds to support a preferred organisation is therefore a wise move. The amount of money the levy payer will transfer for your use could cover 100% of the eligible training and assessment costs, up to the funding band maximum, of the apprenticeship standard. This does not include English and maths training up to and including level 2, which is funded separately.

Personal growth and training opportunities are proven to motivate teams – often more than a pay rise. Now is an ideal opportunity to upskill your teams, improve employee engagement and drive business improvements all for little or no cost.

We help clients navigate through the mysterious world of apprenticeships and focus on using different funding streams to help companies develop their staff in a really cost-effective way – wherever they are in the UK.

What is the apprenticeship levy?

Let’s be honest, the apprenticeship levy isn’t as easy to understand as we would all like. There are complexities and a level of detail that make even the most conscientious of us sit and scratch our heads. Even reading the shortest of paragraphs on most website starts to bombard us with a plethora of words and phrases that make us reach for caffeine. Levy, 20% OTJ, WDF, co-investment, funding bands, ESFA, Ofsted. Without a dedicated person focusing on understanding this confusing landscape, some of our clients had either give us and seen the Levy as ‘just another tax’ (their words not ours!) or had done the best they could but ended up losing money because they were underspending their levy funds.

Lockdown learning and apprenticeships

With the lockdown extended, most managers and leaders have rolled their sleeves up and jumped into the deep end to deal with day to day, immediate business needs. With all hands to the pump, it is easy to understand why so many people aren’t thinking about the future, but for companies to survive, decision makers need to have ‘bi-focal’ vision. They need to keep one eye on the ‘here and now’ and one eye firmly focused on the future.
